NP® SiOPack® is a groundbreaking product innovation, offering a plastic-free, ultra-thin protective layer. This coating is based on natural raw materials as also paper, cardboard, molded pulp, and natural fibers. It can be applied to raw materials or finished containers made from these substances, endowing them with unique functional properties.
A transparent window made of paper – long considered technically impossible.
With Glassine by SiOPack® that leap has now been achieved: parchment paper is transformed into a patent-pending barrier that is both transparent and protective enough to replace plastic in window packaging – while remaining fully recyclable in the paper stream.
A pilot project in the food retail sector demonstrates its potential: bread bags with plastic windows have been successfully replaced. The result: less plastic, the same level of product protection, and enhanced theft prevention thanks to improved visibility.
The technology is industrially scalable, already market-tested, and suitable for high volumes – without the need for equipment changes.
In Europe alone, replacing just 10% of plastic window packaging could save more than 150,000 tonnes of plastic annually.
